Micro Needling Therapy – Dermaroller
For outstanding skin rejuvenation, Medical Micro Needling, more commonly known as Dermaroller is a must, as part of your anti-ageing, beauty regime. It will revitalise your skin and leave it younger-looking.
Unlike chemical peels, micro-dermabrasion and laser resurfacing, medical Micro Needling is not detrimental to the epidermis, (the top layer of skin). The epidermis remains intact. Additionally there is no risk of permanent skin discolouration or skin sensitivity to UV light. Furthermore, it is suitable for all skin types and the results have been clinically proven.
What is Medical Micro Needling?
Medical Micro Needling uses a precision hand held device such as a medical grade Dermaroller, which penetrates the skin, creating thousands of minuscule pin-prick wounds.
These microscopic perforations to the skin trigger the release of growth factors, which promote new collagen and elastin to be produced.
The healing time is rapid and the procedure almost painless, in comparison to harsher resurfacing techniques.
How does Medical Micro-Needling Work?
By the age of 35 we have already lost half of the collagen in our skin and elastin (which makes our skin elastic). The reason Micro Needling is so powerful, is due to its collagen and elastin production. It stimulates the skin’s ability to repair itself.
A pin prick injury from a medical Micro Needle/Dermaroller undergoes the same 3 stages of healing as a larger wound:
1) Inflammation
This begins after the treatment. The skin becomes red.
2) Proliferation
(Tissue Formation) – Healthy tissue growth is stimulated by tissue proliferation and growth factors
White blood cells work on the injured tissue eliminating it of bacteria and waste. The process of healing starts. A few days after the wound forms, cells called keratinocytes begin proliferating, which results in the epidermis becoming thicker.
Cells called fibroblasts migrate to the injured tissue area and stimulate collagen and elastin production, as well as proteoglycans, and other matrix components.
3) Tissue Remodelling Formation
2 days after the Procedure
Collagen type III, the main form of collagen produced in early wound healing is laid down, just below the basal layer of the epidermis.
5 days after the Procedure
The matrix is re-established and over the next few months, collagen type III is gradually replaced by collagen type I, which increases tissue strength. This tissue remodelling continues for a year or more.

How many Treatments are Required?
3 treatments, 6 weeks apart, in any one year, will give you the youthful appearance you are seeking.

Contraindications
- History of keloid or raised scarring
- History of actinic (solar) keratosis
- History of eczema, psoriasis and other chronic conditions
- History of Herpes Simplex infections
- History of diabetes
- Presence of raised moles, warts or any raised lesions on targeted treatment area
- Prior skin treatment with cortico‐steroids (due to skin tissue thinning)
- Scleroderma or collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities (patients on high blood
- pressure, blood thinning or heart medication are not candidates for the Micro Needle Therapy)
- Active bacterial, viral, fungal or herpetic infection
- Active acne
- Immunosuppression
- Emotional instability or mental illness
- Scars that are less than 6 months old
- Facial surgery in the past 6 months
- Facial fillers, or Botox injections, in the past 4 months
- ‘Permanent’ fillers in the past 6 months
- Pregnancy

Darker skinned clients prone to hyperpigmentation are required to use a skin lightening treatment, for 2 weeks prior to their treatment appointment
LED Light Emission Therapy
Following your Dermaroller treatment your skin’s healing will be accelerated with the use of a LED Light Emitting Diode.
Cellular tissue has within it the capacity to repair itself at a specific rate. However, there are molecules within the cells called photo-acceptors that, when activated, speed up the cell repair process.
At Detox on Demand we use a safe, effective, light emitting diode to activate these photo-acceptors, to increase the speed, quality and strength of tissue repair.
